Revolutionizing mobile diagnostics for a smart at-home use

Pilotfish collaborated with iXensor to design the PixoTest® series, an innovative line of mobile diagnostic devices that turns smartphones and compact electronics into devices for improving remote healthcare diagnostics. These devices - PixoTest® Mobile, PixoTest® BT, and PixoTest® Vision - serve different user needs, from at-home health monitoring to decentralized clinical testing. Using iXensor's PixoTech® platform, the series harnesses smartphone integration and Bluetooth technology to provide lab-grade diagnostic capabilities that fit in the palm of a hand.

Designing accessible, intuitive devices to increase remote health diagnostics

The universal challenge among these different devices was to make each remote diagnostic device development intuitive for users while providing optimum functionality to increase remote healthcare adoption. We wanted to ensure there was a cohesive design language throughout the series. The tapered design of the first Mobile version was created to show the direction of interaction so that users would know where to put the cassettes. This was then carried through the other designs. Each device was designed to provide a seamless user experience, whether for personal use or clinical environments, making accurate health management accessible to all.

A cohesive, trusted diagnostic series for remote healthcare

Designing the PixoTest® series balanced advanced functionality with ease of use. Pilotfish’s cohesive design approach visually guides users while meeting iXensor’s high-tech requirements. For PixoTest Mobile, Pilotfish developed an adaptable design to secure the device to a variety of smartphone cameras with pressure-activated adhesive and soft foam, enabling reliable, consistent testing. PixoTest BT advanced usability by adding Bluetooth, automating data transfer directly to an app. Finally, PixoTest Vision incorporated an embedded screen and expanded testing for lipid and other biomarkers, representing a multifunctional diagnostic device for remote care that supports both personal and clinical applications.
