Designing smart defibrillator solutions

When an out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) occurs, time is critical. Our challenge was to develop the design of the CellAED® to be portable, affordable and easy to use. The size, shape, and graphics make it accessible and intuitive to use in a high-stress situation for people with limited or no medical experience. The bold colours and graphics depict the three-step process to empower users to activate and administer life-saving technology without following complicated instructions.

One of the most crucial aspects of our work was the need to meet the CE-MDD compliance deadline. We ensured that all designs and documents were submitted on time for compliance approval and worked within our client’s ISO13485 system, while also in Pilotfish’s ISO9001 quality management system. Our presence in Taiwan allowed us to be on-site to build tools and parts, and work with contract manufacturers while the Rapid Response Revival team were in Australia. Our expertise helped reduce time and costs and ensured a shorter time to market, better ROI, and faster development. With Pilotfish's help, the CellAED® was developed quickly, turning the design into fully mechanically engineered parts, making real plastic parts for compliance testing, and ultimately getting the product to market.
